This one's for the seller who's ready for a change.
So before I say anything else, let me be clear about who I'm not here to lecture. If you're buying designs off a marketplace and reselling them, and that's working for you, genuinely, you have my blessing. It's a real way to make real money. Not everyone's a graphic designer, not everyone has the time or the cash or the resources to become one, and there are millions of buyers out there. Plenty of them will happily buy that sticker and never once notice it's for sale in another shop too. If that's your path, run it. No judgment from me, none at all.
But if you're still reading, my guess is some part of you wants the other thing. The thing where the work is unmistakably yours. That's who I built this for, and that's who I'm talking to right now.
Here's what I wish someone had told me sooner.
For years I thought the trick was presentation. If my website looked nice enough, the designs would sell themselves. And hey, I did have a nice looking website. But the sales stayed, well, fine. Just fine. I couldn't figure out why.
Then last year I landed on an Etsy shop that stopped me cold. Every single design belonged to the same family. Same colors, same mood, same point of view, top to bottom. You could have covered the shop name and still known it was them. And it hit me like a slap. That was the thing I didn't have. Meanwhile my own shop had me sitting two rows down in the search results from somebody selling the exact same sticker I was. We were the same marble in the same bag, and right then I knew I wanted to be the odd one out.
That was the day something changed for me.
Because here's what's actually true, and it's the most hopeful thing I know in this whole business. A design can be copied. A prompt can be copied. A trend gets copied a thousand times in a week. The one thing nobody can copy is you. The way you see things. The specific person you're making for. That isn't a small edge in a sea of sameness. It's the only one that lasts.
And you do not need to be a designer to have it. You don't need money you don't have, or hours you can't spare, or some degree. That's the part I want you to really hear, because "just learn design" is a wall, not an answer, when you're already stretched thin. Being recognizable was never about talent. It's about making a handful of choices on purpose and then sticking to them, over and over, until people know your work on sight. That's a decision, not a gift. Anybody can make a decision.
So that's the whole reason behind the name. Stop copying. Start branding.
It isn't a dig at anyone. It's an invitation. If part of you has been wanting your shop to finally feel like yours, this is me telling you you're allowed to go get that, and that you're closer than it feels. You don't need my permission to start. You don't need anyone's. You just make one choice today that's unmistakably you, and then you make it again tomorrow.
The internet has plenty of shops that look like all the other shops, and that's okay, there's room for them. What it doesn't have yet is the one only you would build, because you haven't let yourself build it.
If you're ready, be the odd one out. I promise it's the marble people remember.
